Bandai Wonderswan (SW-001)

The Bandai Wonderswan was released in 1998 for Japan only. The translated USD figure that the system sold for is $39.99. It has one major unique characteristic: it plays in both a vertical and horizontal format. This particular model was the black and white version which is a 16 bit system that was released to compete with Nintendo's everpopular Game Boy series. The Wonderswan only requires one AA battery, which lasts about 30-40 hours average. The screen is 8 shade reflective LCD and is one of the largest screens of a pocket system. The word is, that after Gumpei Yokoi left Nintendo, he created Koto Labs and the Wonderswan console was a project that he devised and started, but sadly did not live long enough to see the project finish. He is memorialized in the game Gunpey, a puzzle game for the system that plays in the vertical format. The system has heavily been licensed by Square. There were also a decent amount of Digimon and Gundam games released for the system, and it is no wonder since the parent company is Bandai.

On the right side (using the view above) there is an expansion port that is left wide open, with no protection from the elements. This port is used for link cables, head phones (with an adapter), and all other future upgrades.
