The gold cartridges were special cartridges made only for Legend of Zelda and Adventures of Link. They were available for the first few runs, and then were replaced by the traditional Nintendo gray.

By Tengen. Tengen was actually an Atari based company which made unlicensed cartridges for Nintendo and other systems. Nintendo and Atari went to court over the Tengen games and licenses, most importantly Tetris. However, Tengen still had the best version of Tetris by far.

Other Tengen carts were: Pac-Mania, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Alien Syndrome, Gauntlet, Fantasy Zone, Vindicators, R.B.I. Baseball 1-3, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Super Sprint, Shinobi, Skull & Crossbones, Toobin, After Burner, Klax, Road Runner, Rolling Thunder.

The silver cased unlicensed Camerica games. Comes in gold. The image shows the back of the case: the frequency switch in the recessed part. The switch starts in position 'A' and is switched to 'B' if the cartridge does not work in position 'A'.

One of the unlicensed Nintendo games. The 6 in 1 cartridge. There are many variations, some cartridges carrying up to 80 or so games.

The eight early categories of Nintendo games. During the launch of the NES in America, Nintendo needed games. Rather than reprogram everything, they used Famicom cartridges and authorized the use of a regio convertor to allow the Japanese Famicom games to be played on the US Nintendo.
